YOUR VISION. OUR CREATIVE IDEAS.
A well-designed landscape combines the nature and culture. It is well thought-out and considers the site environment, a client's wish list, and strong design principals. A good landscape designer listens to the client and uses their wish list to create a plan that is organized, functional, sustainable and beautiful.
A premier Design and Build firm since 2001, Dearborn Designs & Associates was founded by Certified Landscape Designer, Lexi Dearborn with one goal ...‘Create exceptional outdoor living spaces that meet our client's needs by delivering creative, sustainable landscape plans that are really pretty'.
People, Process and Design
“As a designer, we almost become a member of the client's extended family. If you are good, you want to build that kind of relationship, because you need to understand their dynamics; it is so much more than somebody saying, "I want a pool, or I want a new front walkway.' For me, it's about finding out who the client is so that I can create the right space. I believe a great space influences the way our clients use their outdoors, day-to-day. We offer innovative design solutions and drawing packages to our clients. For me, good design this is the starting point of any well-executed landscape project.”
Lexi Dearborn Dipl.B. ODHLD CLD
A graduate of the University of Guelph, Lexi holds an Ontario Horticultural Diploma in Landscape Design Honors with Certificates in Landscape Construction, Home Gardening, Garden Maintenance, and is an Advanced Master Gardener. In April 2015, Lexi received her CLD (Certified Landscape Designer) designation. ID #007591. I join an elite group of designers recognized across Canada and North America known for their skills in enhancing the quality of an outdoor living space. Good landscape design requires far more than creativity. Creativity without horticultural expertise and an extensive knowledge of site engineering will only lead to disappointment in the finished product.
Landscape design comes naturally to Lexi. During her childhood, her family owned and operated Ten Gables Golf Course and Resort in Sundridge, Ontario. ‘My Grandmother Billie had an incredible influence in molding my gardening skills. She believed gardens and flowers were an important part of every home.’ says Lexi.
Landscaping and Horticulture are a second career for Lexi. After completing a 3-year Business Diploma in Hotel and Restaurant Administration, Lexi spent over 25 years working in Ontario ’s finest hotels and restaurants. Although the two careers don’t seem related – serving food and creating landscapes – the principles are much the same – put the customer first, be creative so every project is special, provide great service, be honorable, and expect excellence – apply to both industries.
For a number of years, Lexi taught Landscape Design and Gardening courses at Georgian College in Orillia, Ontario. She continues to work closely with local communities, designing naturalized spaces for people of all ages. A proud Active Member of Landscape Ontario since 2006, Lexi continues to support and promote Greening for Life.
